The nearby Blue Mosque has become one of my favorite buildings to look at. It was built in the early 1600's and remains a functional mosque today. Here's a picture of Pallavi in front of it.
Also, water plays a big role in the history and culture of Istanbul, as the main part of the city lies at the confluence of three bodies of water (does that make Pittsburgh the Istanbul of the west??). We took a day-cruise up the Bosphorus Strait, a 19-mile strait which separates European Istanbul from Asian Istanbul and also connects the Black Sea to the Marmara Sea. It was a fun boat ride with some breathtaking views. Here's a picture of Pallavi on the boat (she's the one who looks like the unibomber) and picture of the two of us with the Black Sea in the background.
Adding to the good times here in Turkey are our friends, Annie and Mike from Jacksonville. We're thrilled to be traveling with them and look forward to borrowing Mike's travel iron. Here's a picture of the four of us in front of Aya Sofya.

Hi guys! Its been a few weeks since I visited the blog, and I cant believe you are already done with Italy...time is flying! So glad you are enjoying Istanbul...I think the Blue Mosque - along with the Taj Mahal - is one of those must see places that truly live up to and exceeds the hype. So beautiful. And Amol! That's quite a beard you have! All is well with Team Finnie...I am in denial about staring work Monday. But, all good things...you know. (:
Hi Amollavi - miss you guys but it seems like you are having an amazing time - this is the first time I visited your blog. The reason I am writing though is to make sure you both are going to submit your absentee ballots for the election - I got really nervous about that this morning since MN is one of those crazy swing states. I'm sure you remembered but I just wanted to feel reassured :)) Love! Neh
Rest assured, we have our absentee ballots. It was actually the first thing we took care of when we decided to do this trip. It's been interesting to watch the kind of coverage that our election is getting abroad, especially on Al Jazeera, here in Turkey. We stayed up to watch the debates, and I can only imagine the funny late-night talk-show jokes we're missing.
